Andrew Higgins & the Boats that Won WWII
Sunday, September 8th, 2024
Learn how Columbus, NE born Andrew Higgins happened to invent and manufacture the landing craft needed for the beach landing of troops on D-Day. General Eisenhower once commented, “If Higgins had not designed and built those LCVPs (landing craft, vehicle, personnel), we never could have landed on an open beach”.
Join us as Major General (retired) Roger P. Lempke, former Nebraska Adjutant General presents the fascinating history of the Higgins boat whose design is still being used today.
Hosted by the Friend Historical Society and the American Legion Post 183, Friend, Nebraska.
