Friend Historical Society Receives Grant Approval Notice!

On June 17, 2022, the Friend Historical Society received notice from the NE Department of Economic Development that our application, submitted in July 2021, for the Nebraska Shovel-Ready Capital Recovery and Investment Act Grant has been CONDITIONALLY APPROVED in the amount of $300,000. The grant dollars are from the Federal Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. This award compliments the $300,000 cash match raised by December 31, 2021 for a total of $600,000. Many of you contributed to the cash match of $300,000.

The Warren Building–Opera House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are few Opera Houses left in Nebraska and even fewer being renovated . This project focuses on structural improvements per specifications from our structural engineer and the restoration company.

We are thrilled as there was strong competition for these funds. We will be awaiting the next step which is a letter from the NE Office of Economic Development detailing specific requirements for full project approval. If you would like more information, please contact Mary Ann Losh or Pam Hromadka.
